About this quote
How you get away tells you how urgent the problem is. A calm escape buys you space to think; a sudden, panicked flight means something needs fixing now. Notice which option you reach for and ask what you actually need, whether rest, a plan, or outside help. If you mostly hide in books, set a strict reading limit and then take one small real action; if fear ever makes you bolt, decide a safety step and tell someone.
When to use it
- During finals I told my roommate, 'I'll read one chapter to calm down, then I'll do one past paper.'
- After a hostile client call I said to myself, 'I'm reading in the break room for twenty minutes, then I'll draft a calm reply.'
- Walking home late and feeling followed, I thought, 'No books now—I'm running to the nearest open shop and calling someone.'
- When family shouting gets out of hand I tell myself, 'I'm closing the book and stepping outside until I can make a plan to talk.'
