Paul Brandt

Born Paul Rennée Belobersycky on July 21, 1972, Paul Brandt grew up in Calgary and Airdrie, Alberta. Long before he was a national music star, he worked as a pediatric nurse, having graduated with his nursing degree from Mount Royal University in 1992. His first public performance was a simple rendition of "Amazing Grace" at Crescent Heights High School. This blend of practical compassion and faith laid the groundwork for his entry into the country music scene of the mid-1990s, when a Nashville record label noticed his potential as a songwriter.

Brandt made a massive impact in 1996 with his debut single, "My Heart Has a History." The song propelled him to international success and made him the first Canadian male country artist to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States since Hank Snow in 1974. His debut album, "Calm Before the Storm," achieved Gold certification in the United States. He followed this success with "I Do," a self-written song for a friend's wedding that reached number one on the Mediabase Country chart, and later Canadian favorites like "Alberta Bound" and "I'm an Open Road."

Taking the Reins

After releasing three albums with Warner/Reprise, Brandt chose a self-directed path by founding his own label, Brand-T Records. This move proved highly successful. Every album he released under his own label earned Album of the Year awards at either the Canadian Country Music Awards or the Juno Awards.
