Chloe Neill

Chloe Neill, born May 17, 1975, in Arkansas, is a contemporary author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer, best known for the Chicagoland Vampires series and the Devil’s Isle series. Her fiction belongs to a publishing era rich with supernatural cities, vampires, magic, and romantic tension, and her books found readers across languages, with the Chicagoland Vampires novels translated into Spanish, Italian, German, and more.

Neill’s path to writing was not straightforward. As a young person, she did not want to become a writer, and through school and college she avoided choosing a profession that would require too much writing. In an interview, she explained that she was not good at constructing sentences at the time and found writing difficult. She studied law at the University of Nebraska, and while still in school she worked a part-time job that involved journalistic activities. That work made writing feel easier. She later began with fan fiction, then quickly moved away from it so she could invent her own characters and stories.

In 2005, Neill wrote her first original story. Since then, she has written at a steady pace, about two books each year. Her most famous work is the Chicagoland Vampires series, which began with Some Girls Bite in 2009 and continued through thirteen novels, ending with Blade Bound in 2017. The series also includes several novellas, among them High Stakes, Howling For You, Lucky Break, Phantom Kiss, and Slaying It.

After Chicagoland Vampires, Neill expanded that fictional world with The Heirs of Chicagoland. The first book, Wild Hunger, appeared in 2018, followed by Wicked Hour, Shadowed Steel, Devouring Darkness, and Cold Curses. Her other series include The Dark Elite, made up of Firespell, Hexbound, and Charmfall; The Devil’s Isle, which includes The Veil, The Sight, The Hunt, and The Beyond; and The Captain Kit Brightling series, with The Bright and Breaking Sea and A Swift and Savage Tide.

Neill lives in Omaha with her husband and two dogs, and in addition to her work as an author, she works as a contract lawyer. That mix of law, discipline, and imaginative storytelling gives her biography a practical warmth: someone who once tried to avoid writing became a bestselling novelist with multiple long-running series.
