“There is nothing in the Koran to warrant the use of force for conversion. The holy book says in the clearest language possible, “There is no compulsion in religion.” The Prophet’s whole life is a repudiation of compulsion in religion. No Mussulman, to my knowledge, has ever approved of compulsion. Islam would cease to be a world religion if it were to rely upon force for its propagation.”

About this quote
Belief that's forced isn't really belief; it's just surrender. Coercing someone into a faith produces outward compliance and inner resentment, never real conviction. Genuine faith has to be chosen freely, which is exactly why pressure undermines the very thing it wants.
When to use it
- A parent lets a teenager explore their own beliefs instead of forcing attendance at services.
- Two close friends of different faiths trade stories about their traditions without either trying to convert the other.
- A community group welcomes newcomers without pressuring anyone to adopt its views.
