About this quote
Not every book deserves the same time or attention. Some you skim for pleasure, some you read fast for inspiration, and a few you need to study until they change what you do. Decide which books matter enough to take notes, test the ideas, and discuss them with others. If a book can alter your practice, slow down and work through it deliberately.
When to use it
- Before the client pitch tomorrow, I skimmed the industry reports but chewed and digested the competitor analysis that actually shaped our slides.
- For my literature seminar I tasted a few novels, devoured the one I loved, and chewed and digested the critical essay I used for my paper.
- When picking parenting books, I flipped through several, tried a quick tip from one, and really chewed and digested the strategy I used for a month with my toddler.
- Starting the side business, I sampled many blog posts, devoured a couple of how-to guides, and chewed and digested the accounting book until I could run the numbers myself.
