“I am a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass.”

About this quote
Confidence grows when you name what you can do and point it out in others. Say the truth about yourself out loud, and notice how your posture and choices change. Try a simple practice: each morning name one thing you did well, then tell one person what you admire about them. Who will you tell today that they're capable? Saying it aloud makes that claim easier to act on.
When to use it
- Performance review at work: before I list my wins I tell my manager, "I'm a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass," then I state my number.
- Study group before a class presentation: I laugh and say, "We're ready — I'm a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass," to calm everyone down.
- After my first run back from injury: I whisper to myself, "I'm a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass," and then I go for the next mile.
- Talking with a sibling about respect: I tell them, "I'm a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass, but I won't accept that tone," and I set the boundary.
