“Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount.”
About this quote
Courage makes the first visible move possible. You can plan, prepare, and mean well, but until you take a risky action those strengths stay private. What small, uncomfortable step would change one thing in your life today? Set a time, do that step, and treat it like practice — action builds the rest.
When to use it
- Before asking for a raise at work: "I’ve rehearsed the numbers — I’ll go into the meeting and say my case out loud."
- Right before my thesis defense: "I can be nervous, but I’ll stand up and explain the main point clearly."
- Starting physical therapy after an injury: "It feels scary to try, but I’ll go to the first session and do one exercise."
- Calling my sibling after a long silence: "I’m afraid of how they’ll react, but I’ll make the call and say I’m sorry."
