All that appears and happens about and around us is uncertain, transient. But there is a Supreme Being hidden therein as a Certainly, and one would be blessed if one could catch a glimpse of that Certainty and hitch one’s waggon to it. The quest for that Truth is the summum bonum of life.

About this quote

Everything on the surface keeps shifting, which leaves people restless when they tie themselves to it. The steadier path is to find something that holds still underneath the change and fasten your life to that. A single durable center gives direction that passing circumstances never can.

When to use it

  • Someone who keeps the same core values through three career changes and two moves.
  • A person leaning on a steady sense of purpose while everything around a layoff falls apart.
  • Returning to one guiding principle whenever competing demands start to scatter you.
